Summer Camp, Psychic Dreams, Ethnomusicology, and Jaja Ding Dongs

E114 – While catching up, we talk psychic abilities and manifesting your thoughts into reality. Do you believe in karma? Then we jump into what’s on mama Mouse’s mind: summer camps and plans for her 3 kids now that California is opening up. After reminiscing about our camp memories, including wheelchairs and Wildman, we talk about the safety of summer camps, especially sleepaway camps, when it comes to COVID and predators. Of course this gets us talking about kidnappings and murders here in San Diego and we mention a bit about Chelsea King, John Gardner, Danielle Van Dam, and David Westerfield. Joelle tells her personal story of the Miramar Lake Jogger, which is super disturbing. Then Weens exerts her telekinetic powers onto her microphone, which gets us back onto pyschic abilities. She even teaches us how to control dreams! Hear the crazy experiment that Weens conducted on this, proving her powers. Speaking of control, or lack thereof, we have received some unsolicited dick pics. But the only kinds of ding dongs we’re interested in are of the jaja variety – hear Julianne’s story on this! We jump into her ethnomusicology class and learn about microtones, syncopation, and what her jazz musician friends have to say about Western music. We also want to ask you – our listener – about what puts you in the zone? Julianne teases future interviews on this subject with saxophonist Bob Mintzer, keyboardist Matt Politano, and drummer Steve Ferrone, who, along with bassist Matt Cory, are known as The Coffee Shop Trio. They have gigs every Sunday that we will advertise on our social media, so please be sure to follow us @mouseandweens on all the platforms!

Actor W. Earl Brown: Scream, Deadwood and More – Pt 1

E92 – We’re excited to bring you the first half of our inspiring interview with W. Earl Brown, a very talented and prolific actor that you’ve seen as the main enforcer and right-hand man Dan Dority in HBO’s Deadwood, as Warren in There’s Something About Mary (of franks and beans fame!), as Kenny the news cameraman in Scream, and as the sheriff in Preacher, just to name a few of his works. He is also an amazing storyteller, screenwriter, producer, musician, and wonderful human being. Hear behind the scenes details about his work and inspirations, many from darker places, with stories and mentions about Lemmy from Motorhead, Elijah Wood, Wes Craven, Jamie Kennedy, Johnny Depp, Drew Barrymore, the Farrelly brothers, Ben Stiller, Chris Elliott, David Milch, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Cusak, Chris Farley, Timothy Olyphant, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and more. We learn his backstory from Kentucky to Chicago to LA, his trajectory in successful films and series, his advice to new actors, and his personal, current, and upcoming projects like Bloodworth and Dad Band. If you are a fan of comedy, horror, or westerns, or a fan of rock, metal, or country music, you will find inspiration in this episode, full of wonderful nuggets of wisdom and vulnerability from the perspective of a seasoned actor, husband, father, and friend.

Interview: Craig Abell Champion

E44 – Meet Craig Abell Champion, an amazing photographer, writer, director, multimedia and design artist, and a wonderfully kind soul. He is a friend of Julianne’s and tells us inside stories of life in the art, music, skateboard, and snowboard scene of the 90’s, sharing stories with Weens about Smashing Pumpkins and Chicago musicians, his movie Cornland, and his work with Burton snowboards. Craig’s photography and design work with Girl Skateboards speaks for itself, earning much press in the skate industry. He is also an open book when it comes to talking about mental illness and his diagnosis with bipolar disorder and mixed mania depression. Hear his description of ECT, electroconvulsive therapy, as a life saving treatment for his treatment resistant and quick cycling bipolar. This fun, creative, fascinating friend is an advocate for shedding light on mental illness and hopes that people continually talk about it and seek their optimal treatment. We love Craig’s transparency and positivity and hope you do too!

Coming Out and Jealousy

E31 – Weens is coming out! She is Julianne Eggold and featured in The Lazy Teacher Podcast episode 39 Mouse is still wrestling with being anonymous, but having a secret is not fun and is causing stress. Most parents in suburbia have secrets and dumb past lives. Just look at Brett Kavanaugh, our favorite douchebag jock turd. We switch gears and discuss a fan’s question about a jealous girlfriend breaking up with him over a photo. Jealousy is a tough emotion and we share our stories, both in our relationships and in our careers. Mouse tells the story about when she knew she couldn’t be a doctor, and Weens’ coworker Jackson DeFreest from The Rookie defines envy vs jealousy. We talk about promoting other entertainers but having the tendency to self-promote instead and hold onto our one nut. On that nut note, please leave us a good review on iTunes! Nina Simone cover song “Feelin Good” used with permission. Jesse Biggio vocals, Jackson DeFreest on guitar.

Interview: Angelo Moore of Fishbone Dr Madd Vibe and Brand New Step

E22 – Weens has dinner with her friend Angelo Moore the lead singer and musician best known for his band Fishbone. You will hear one of LA’s most creative talented and funky men discuss his thoughts on the world today. He talks about how he got into the spirit of David Bowie on tour, and we hear from his stylist Michele Harper on costuming. Dr. Madd Vibe gives his feelings on racism, politics, but mostly gets down and dirty with his corned beef! Hear all of his upcoming musical projects and tours with Brand New Step, Fishbone, Dr. Madd Vibe and the Missin Links, and the Celebrating David Bowie world tour. This is one of music’s great original artists! Don’t miss it. Song credits: Weens and Angelo Moore. Used with permission.

David Bowie: Interview with Musical Director Angelo “Scrote” Bundini

E20 – Meet Weens colleague and friend Scrote. He is the musical director for the Celebrating David Bowie world tour as well as an inspirational musician and human being. We learn the story of how this celebratory tour came to be and Scrote shares stories about David Bowie and what he learned about this legendary icon along the way. This is a special interview for Bowie fans and music history buffs but is also a reminder to all of us to act on what is meaningful to collaborate and to persevere through the negative in order to bring positive changes to others. Enjoy our special edition and please reach out with questions and comments to celebratingdavidbowie.com and mouseandweens@gmail.com

Celebrity stalking, defining Barker, foot pit hate

Ep5 – Weens confesses to stealing Mouse’s stuff. We discuss odd celebrity crushes, stalking 90’s celebrities, life dreams, foot anti-fetishes, pheromones, body parts, the real definition of a barker, David Bowie and his musicians, and more fun stuff!
