E58 – Weens talks work on Warner Brothers hit show The Rookie and Mouse discusses writing her garden book. How do you reset goals and hit new writing deadlines? We get talking about first jobs as Mouse’s son starts to save up money. Guess who was the babysitter, camp counselor, telemarketer, candy shop girl, frozen yogurt jerk, urgent care receptionist, and bowling alley waitress?  It wasn’t all work either with motorcycle rides, whipped cream huffs, office looting, bomb threats to Treasure Island, and lying about lobsters. We sidetrack to discuss Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and agree that the Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt characters, and the Manson Ranch scene, is scarily reminiscent of a strange summer in our childhood during which our dad trained to be a stuntman at the artist colony Zorthian Ranch, full of nude models and pig pens. Hear a list of friends’ and listeners’ first jobs and enjoy this funny, weird little trip down memory lane.

E44 – Meet Craig Abell Champion, an amazing photographer, writer, director, multimedia and design artist, and a wonderfully kind soul. He is a friend of Julianne’s and tells us inside stories of life in the art, music, skateboard, and snowboard scene of the 90’s, sharing stories with Weens about Smashing Pumpkins and Chicago musicians, his movie Cornland, and his work with Burton snowboards. Craig’s photography and design work with Girl Skateboards speaks for itself, earning much press in the skate industry. He is also an open book when it comes to talking about mental illness and his diagnosis with bipolar disorder and mixed mania depression. Hear his description of ECT, electroconvulsive therapy, as a life saving treatment for his treatment resistant and quick cycling bipolar. This fun, creative, fascinating friend is an advocate for shedding light on mental illness and hopes that people continually talk about it and seek their optimal treatment. We love Craig’s transparency and positivity and hope you do too!

E42 – It’s Superbowl Sunday and raining gophers in Southern California! As we catch up on mom life and work life, we realize we want to switch roles a la Freaky Friday. Weens wants the excitement of kids, and Mouse wants a vacation from all the juggling. We discuss the transition from stay at home mom to getting back into the work force, finding purpose in your job, both paid and volunteer, and how to draw the line between the giving of and charging for your time. Mouse struggles with drawing the line on social media on her phone in front of the kids too, and Weens explains simplifying her life. We get sidetracked by Bert and Ernie, Carol Channing, and then reminisce about our boobies first growing, first tampons, and our PE teacher/actor dad playing sports with us after school while rehearsing scenes. Again, another Henson sidetrack gets us talking about Sesame Street and exposure to races and nationalities growing up in predominantly white suburbs. We end hearing a very spiritual dream that Mouse had about the afterlife, a possible message from dad, and a utopian society which reminds Weens of an Albert Brooks movie and some near-death experiences she has studied. Alan Alda also pops in at the end to give sage advice. We hope you enjoy this funny but serious, light but meaningful episode!

E35 – Our good friend from high school, Andrew Piccone, came by with lots of insight about the Eggold sisters. He owns Wander Mouse Films, shooting projects for Snoop Dogg, Disney, Shepard Fairey and MC5. We all reminisce about growing up in suburbia, our old film projects, and the crap we used to get into, and then dissect our guy-girl friend relationship. Weens gets mad at us for leaving her out but he and Weens hang out now, going to movies like Bodied, the battle rap movie produced by Eminem. We land on weed talk, movie ideas while high, and pot paranoia. Weens tells a cringeworthy butt-dial story, and we get into November birthdays, Scorpios, and love lives. Jealousy is a tough emotion and we share our stories, both in our relationships and in our careers. Mouse tells the story about when she knew she couldn’t be a doctor, and Weens’ coworker Jackson DeFreest from The Rookie defines envy vs jealousy.
