Mouse Doggy Dog You Need a Jobby Job

E58 – Weens talks work on Warner Brothers hit show The Rookie and Mouse discusses writing her garden book. How do you reset goals and hit new writing deadlines? We get talking about first jobs as Mouse’s son starts to save up money. Guess who was the babysitter, camp counselor, telemarketer, candy shop girl, frozen yogurt jerk, urgent care receptionist, and bowling alley waitress?  It wasn’t all work either with motorcycle rides, whipped cream huffs, office looting, bomb threats to Treasure Island, and lying about lobsters. We sidetrack to discuss Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and agree that the Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt characters, and the Manson Ranch scene, is scarily reminiscent of a strange summer in our childhood during which our dad trained to be a stuntman at the artist colony Zorthian Ranch, full of nude models and pig pens. Hear a list of friends’ and listeners’ first jobs and enjoy this funny, weird little trip down memory lane.

On location in LA, we watch Weens close down from the previous day’s shoot of the ABC cop show The Rookie. This is our first video call, so you can see this episode on YouTube also! Hear a coworker’s interview and his star stories about John Ritter, Clint Eastwood, and Angelina Jolie. Which one swore like a sailor? Weens details her latest dating adventure and we try to figure out what this particular guy was thinking. And hear the dramatic conclusion to the meditation light lady because we know you’re waiting on the edge of your seats! Go for a fun ride down Hollywood Blvd to see what it’s like to ride shotgun with Julianne. Always a good time! MouseAndWeens.com

Cowboy Denny

E56 – Hear what happens when we Southern California liberal girls have brunch with our stepdad Cowboy Denny, a born and bred Idaho guy. He married our mom 24 years ago and is quite the conservative gentleman with many opinions! A skier and horseman in the 70’s at the Sundance resort, Denny became friends with Robert Redford and Paul Newman, so we hear a few gold nugget stories. Get out your notepad to hear his How I Met Your Mother story, how to be a real man, and a rancher’s thoughts on knives, guns, and paper straws. MouseAndWeens.com

Mean Girls

E55 – We have encountered undermining women lately and try to get to the bottom of it. Mouse and Weens dig into some evolutionary biology – caveman theories – and we look at young girl groups to understand early mean girl behavior. Why are some women hurtful to each other in the workplace? How do you deal with anger, jealousy, resentment, and sabotage? What can women do to remedy the situation? Hear about both Joelle’s and Julianne’s current mean girl situations, after we play catch up talking kids, cord and screen drama, a Hulk Hogan archery master, whether our dad was the Golden State Killer, and reminiscing about a cute crush boy. Then take a 60’s music trivia quiz with us! The big picture here is to learn about female dynamics and how to improve future situations and relationships with other women.

Singing Wiener and First Kisses

E54 – Weens birthed an album of love songs! We talk about her LA performance at an Art of Freelance showcase and the how and why behind pushing out this 12-song love child. Hear her album at www.julianneeggold.com/art-of-freelance. Then we hear some stories from one of her biggest fans and friends, Don Adams, who we find out also has a slight crush on our mom! He tells the story of reading a page out of Julianne’s girlhood diary, which gets us talking about journals and diaries we had as kids. We realize now how overly dramatic we were in writing them. Mouse kept hers but wrote in code as she got older, especially for milestones like her first kiss. Hear how Joelle’s first kiss went down at Christian summer camp during a nature walk, and what Weens remembers about her first kisses. Then we scratch the surface on mean girls as we begin to do some in-depth research for our next episode. Please write or call in if you have any mean girl stories or advice! We need it! 858-206-9971 or mouseandweens@gmail.com

Sister Fight

E52 – Here we go! Weens cannonballs into town to talk about the latest news, Mouse recalls her recent dental panic attack, Weens announces her hiatus from working on a TV job is coming to a close, and lets us in on projects she’s doing and a standup class she’s taking! She even tells a joke. Wait for it. Then we go mano a mano on our topic: sister fights! We relive some of our biggest sister fight memories and rehash what actually went down. Who punched first? What got stolen? Hairpulling, door locks, and jealousy, oh my! We get into sibling rivalry, growing up, and what it’s like for Mouse with kids of her own dealing with this. How do you make kids get along? What are some tips on apologizing? As an adult, how do you get along with a sibling now? We’re not experts, but we feel lucky that we have a good relationship and share a little bit about it. Hope you enjoy this episode!

Chris Fairbanks, Wayne Federman, Chris Taylor on Standup!

E50 – We chat with LA comics and podcasters Chris Fairbanks (Do You Need A Ride?) and Wayne Federman (The History of Standup), about nerves on stage, biggest fears, dating, the Adam Sandler special, and hygge! Hear about The Virgin Sacrifice show at Westside Comedy Theater hosted by Nicole Blaine with comedians Lachlan Patterson, Barry Rothbart, Laurie Kilmartin, and Bryan Callen. And we talk to The Virgin himself, friend and cameraman Chris Taylor, to hear what it was like to go up for the first time. Weens is open to trying standup herself and other vulnerable experiences, like getting back into acting, doing more creative collaborative projects, and even speed dating! Life is to be lived without fear and to connect in true relationships with others, so with that in mind, enjoy Mouse’s most awkward matchmaking moment ever, and our little Mother’s Day ditty to our sweet mom. Q-Tip Bill and his Hollywood Memoirs

E48 – You are about to meet Bill Fuqua, a friend of Julianne’s from the mean streets of Hollywood. Hear his stories growing up in the same neighborhood as stars and songsters, from yesteryear to today, his daily view of Commissioner Gordon, and how close he got to the infamous Manson family and the murder scene of The Black Dahlia. What do Hollywood High, dancing peanuts, and The Gong Show have in common? Bill! How about King Louis XIV, coffee shops, and Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Nicks bandmates? Bill! We get hair and fashion tips and find out how he stands out in a crowd with his Wow Factor, plus share some of our own family memories with him while recording in Weens cozy but lo-fi living room. We learn about his wife strife and then get wooed by his rendition of the Mouse and Weens theme song. Enjoy this episode with our friend Bill!

No Lo Siento

E47 – Weens wrapped ABC’s hit show The Rookie and is going to fill her hiatus with creative endeavors Myers-Briggs style, even though it’s possible that Jung and Freud were full of BS. Weens is searching for her main gig, isn’t sure about being on stage, but loves improv and recalls watching Upright Citizens Brigade in New York for the first time. She took some UCB classes in LA, and then challenges Mouse on her comedy and improv skills. Mouse gets nervy when she lectures to gardeners, but she commands a room when it’s about sexual health. Go figure. Hear the exercise we both do on being an expert and see if you feel the fraud and imposter syndrome creeping in. We segue to hear about Mouse’s recent colonoscopy and get the play by play on what to expect under twilight anesthesia when you basically get roofied with fentanyl. Then take a delightful Jeep ride down memory lane, Dickens style, as Weens recounts caring for Mouse after oral surgery and why she still might be on America’s Most Wanted list.
