Balancing Act

E96 – Life is a big balancing act right now. Who can relate? After some requisite excretory system discussion, and talk about backyards, shotguns, and The Sopranos, we jump into how our Thanksgiving went. As a parent, it’s difficult to know when you’re giving the right amount of time to your kids versus your work. And in Mouse’s case, does podcasting count as work or is it a hobby? What are other people thinking about how much time she spends with her kids versus her computer? Perceptions, expectations, assumptions and The Shoulds can get us all into trouble, so we try to break down our personal experiences. We also get into how friends and family are at different stages of how they are dealing with coronavirus expectations right now. Some of us are expanding our bubbles and spending time with family, and others are strictly locked down and only going on guilt trips! How is this going to play into the upcoming holidays? Patti Negri: Hollywood Psychic-Medium and Good Witch

E74 – We celebrate Mouse and mom’s birthday by going to the Hollywood hills to visit a good witch, Patti Negri, author and psychic medium to the stars…and to us! Patti shares her personal journey of how she learned to embrace her gifts of communicating with the dead from a very early age. She reveals some spiritual encounters on tv shows clearing ghosts from famous houses, channeling celebrities like Michael Jackson, and conjuring serial killers like that of the Black Dahlia. Then we get down and dirty with our own personal tarot readings and contacting our dead loved ones. Mouse gets a special bathtub spell to connect to her inner child, Weens discovers that her new love is waiting in a corner, and mom talks to her mother who reveals something very personal and vulnerable. Patti facilitates some very spooky-cool and extremely insightful connections to ourselves and to our loved ones who have passed on. And at the end of the episode Mouse gets unsettling news regarding our dead father and the lies that were told. Where will we go from here?  Patti gives some great tips on how to tap into your own psychic abilities, how to deal with imbalance and stress, and how to work toward happiness, all outlined in her book Old World Magick for the Modern World. Come on this journey with us as Patti lifts the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead, and allows us all to peek in. You will be on the edge of your seat!

Girls Trips, Moms Nights Out, Female Friendships

E62 – Mouse recaps her girls’ trip wine tasting in Mexico with friends but feels guilty being gone three weekends in a row. Meet Joelle’s friends and find out if her husband is really okay with all this time away or resentful? Are the kids feeling abandoned thinking mom is selfish? How do you take female friends from acquaintances to besties and how do you keep those friendships going over the years? We go over reasons why we need our mom’s nights out and the science behind having girlfriends. We will post study references in our Show Notes. Hear the statistics on how much moms really work and how much free time they have to themselves. No wonder we need our time away! Then we read a controversial article about why some mothers don’t want girl time. Is it healthier to focus more on your husband or is it codependency? Joelle feels judged by this “blessed” woman who shoulds her, but maybe it’s insecurity and she needs to hear it? Weens does a great job giving advice as a non-mom and talks kids’ independence, giving up some control, and raises the future question of how much you should talk dirty in front of your kids. This is a good one for all of us striving to get balance with parenting anxiety. Please take a listen and rate/review on Apple Podcasts to let us know what you think! Thank you!

Mole, Mule, Mole, Mule

E27 – Mouse explains her family’s Jewish side – the non bar mitzvah birthday campout and the non bris bris. Is 13 a man? Technology, coddling, and helicopter parenting might be to blame. Free range parenting is getting pushback in Mouse’s community probably because of the past small town murders. We talk crime and burglaries, and Weens tells her stolen bike story, ending with a flurry of 80s George confusion!  We remember a family camping trip and get into why men on our dad’s side are solitary – artsy Grizzly Adams or anxiety? Weens tells another hilarious work story, we do some car talk, and get into shame cleaning. Mouse knows new moms are notorious for this! Mouse is balancing her mini midlife crisis needing to go out and party, with working in the school garden, and we give props to all the teachers out there taking care of our kids. Please tell your friends about us. We would love some word of mouth support! www.MouseAndWeens.com

Fluffy Humps

E12 – Birthday parties, the work-life balance, and Weens having kids. Find out what boobs and Young Frankenstein have in common, and hear the sisters’ epic snowboarding and shark stories. Fear talk, self-analysis, and a nice list of self-help books balance out the online dating talk! www.MouseAndWeens.com

Tonsils or panic attacks, Adam Sandler, Weens dude update, Europe trip, school gardens

Ep7 – We talk snoring and getting a tonsillectomy, wondering if it is an air quality issue from the Los Angeles smog or if it is a panic attack. Is LA at the center of depression, anxiety, headaches, and issues needing medication? Is it the fast-paced lifestyle and the traffic? Weens lives in the Glendale and Los Feliz area on the east side and tries not to work at Fox or Sony Studios which is too far away. Weens tells a story about….

…being at Sony Studios at the Happy Madison offices with her guy Adam Sandler! She likes that look – the nice New York Jewish boy. She tells a story about an ex boyfriend and divulges that she is 6’1”. We talk about Weens’ long-distance guy that she’s dating, and discuss ghosting. Travel talk, gastrointestinal talk, and camera talk ensue. Hear stories about Angelo Moore from Fishbone who was singing in the Celebrating David Bowie tour at two venues, the musical director Scrote (Angelo Bundini) who she worked with at the Wiltern with Sting, Gavin Rossdale, and Joe Elliot of Def Leppard. Shooting concerts has led to interest from music video and documentary industry people, and Weens continues to film shows even abroad. She flew to the Netherlands and Berlin meeting the son of the Roxanne singer, Joe Sumner. Mouse finds out many indecent facts about being on a tour bus including what is The Bag of Shame. David Bowie’s bandmates Adrian Belew and Mike Garson had stories to tell, even one including Bono from U2. told a lot of fun stories. We segue to Weens peeling out of work for Last Man on Earth scouting avocado orchards in Simi Valley. She feels bad for being excited to leave work. Mouse agrees and gets into school gardening talk. The elementary school where she volunteers started a farm to table program and feeds into the school lunches. We talk about food balance, healthy vs packaged snacks, and eating habits, disorders, and food issues. Is it better or worse to prohibit things like carbs or milk? Weens gets into her thoughts on being a vegetarian and we get a little heated discussing animal rights and the environment vs pediatrician recommendations.  (Enter Chris Pratt!) Hear the first throes of Weens’ road rage which gets us talking about the autobahn and our trips to Germany and Bavaria during Oktoberfest. We wrap it up while watching the Charles Manson orgy ranch go during Weens ride home. Good ol’ Southern California!
