Anatomy Lesson

E106 – Bras! One of the most important tools in every woman’s wardrobe is the brassiere to hold up the girls! We discuss what type we like, common problems, the cost of bras, and what it’s like being fitted in person versus online.  Lingerie talk gets wacky, Weens gets sultry-nervous, and stressed by this after back-to-back family birthdays, Joelle gets her panties in a bunch. So we take a breath with Sesame Street and work our way into a quick chat about the Elmo Netflix documentary. More Mouse knicker twisting, then the elephant in the room: why did our parents use the cutesy names “dinky” and “twinkie” instead of the anatomically correct “penis” and “vagina?” Luckily, our mom is visiting San Diego so we pull her onto the mic and quiz her about the family history of naming privates. We also keep her in the hot seat asking why she got remarried on our dad’s birthday, and find out her fun nuggets about horses, cowboys, Robert Redford, her reggae phase, cbd, drinking, and the story behind the broken ankle. Was it a case of our dad having a walk-it-off football mentality or was he being negligent? We hope you like this one as we air some of our family’s intimates. So many questions answered, so many laughs!

Lisa and Sam Shake Their Heads At Us

E105 – A special crossover interview between I Shake My Head’s Lisa and Sam and us! We re-aired this PodFix Presents PodSix episode because it was such fun that we had to share! The six vague important questions that we were asked include (1) Is there any topic that the two of us won’t talk about? This brings up the sneaky listeners and sex talk right off the bat. (2) Do you have any regrets about what you’ve said on your podcast? Hello editing and haters! (3) What do we think of garden gnomes? The answer takes a big hilarious swinging turn! (4) What are your thoughts on switching to Canadian currency including loonies and toonies? What are loonies and toonies? We Americans get schooled! Be sure to hear Weens quote On Golden Pond – the Norms, Loon! (5) If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Find out what we both choose and its dopamine high. Plus hot dog talk, cinnamon buns, and salty v sweet foods. Finally (6) Would you rather go into the past or into the future to meet family? This question leads to family secrets, nature vs nurture, hot great grandpa talk, and who Weens was in a past life regression! Psychic medium Patti Negri, vampire Father Sebastian, the Padres baseball team, and Oprah make an appearance as we close it out too, so be sure to listen!

Steve Ferrone, Drummer of Tom Petty, Duran Duran, Clapton & More

E101 – We had the honor of interviewing esteemed jazz, rock, and R&B drummer Steve Ferrone. You have definitely heard his work – just look at this bio below. In this recording, he gets candid about love, family, dalliances, the rock and roll lifestyle, and explains some life changes he has made for the better. We learn about the mods and rockers of Brighton Beach in the 60’s and how Steve’s first blues band opened for The Who. Steve and Julianne talk shop regarding syncopation and style – Pretty Purdie, Steve Gadd, and Led Zeppelin to name a few. When asked about nerves, traveling, and groupies, we heard some funny, surprising stories! Duran Duran played a big role during Stephen’s busiest year, when he also played with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and was in the Saturday Night Live band. We figured out the connection between Questlove and Average White Band. And Julianne’s Unchained questions inspire a great Johnny Cash impression! Find out which soap opera Steve was in, which musicians and moments rendered him star-struck, including recalling what it was like to record at Abbey Road. We also hear the amazing story of Prince performing George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” during his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers wrote in some questions, so we find out about a reunion, conflict, grief, what life was really like in the band, and insight into the person that Tom Petty was.

Steve has played with Average White Band, Chaka Khan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duran Duran, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Whitney Houston, Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Dire Straits, Aerosmith, Morrissey-Mullen, Bee Gees, Cyndi Lauper, Bette Midler, Stevie Nicks, Paul Simon, Steve Winwood, Tracey Chapman, Mick Jagger, George Benson, Peter Frampton, Anita Baker, Bryan Ferry, Rick James, Slash, Scritti Politti, Pooh and more.

Ratty New Year!

E99 – We’ve been Mousing and Weening since December 2017 so this marks our three year anniversary of the podcast! Thank you to everyone for supporting us and listening! We celebrate by talking all about the party that some Christmas rats threw in Julianne’s kitchen and futon and closet and lingerie drawer. We even get a pop-in interview (the sweetest ever!) with the pest control man who happens to interrupt our recording! All this hot rat talk naturally gets us onto the subject of men so we create some steamy Damon, DiCaprio, Martin and Banderas sandwiches. After some past Argentine boyfriend reminiscing, we jump back to reality and recap Christmas in Idaho. It was a great visit full of skeet shooting, holiday traditions, and Cowboy Denny bear poking. We segue into Juls’ story of an ex throwing her into a bear, and an injurious snowboarding photo adventure. And now that we’re back in California, we’re in quarantine and questioning bubbles. We are hearing about more and more people close to us catching covid, which is not a fun subject. Be careful everyone! Back to fun romantic memories of New Years and our goals for 2021. Ah, it’s fun to relive these Tahoe, New York, Times Square crowd stories. Remember crowds?! We close this with a shoutout song to all of the podcasts we’ve mentioned in past episodes.

Joyce Is Choice

E97 – Our mom was out to California to visit and we roped her into an early morning recording! Mouse, dressed like Larry King, goes in for some digs. And Weens, dressed like Liberace, gets back with some jabs as we revert to our sibling rivalry days of fighting for mom’s attention. Laugh along at the stories of pets, cowboys, nicknames, cookies, feminism, and altercations at the dentist office. We reminisce about our psychic visit, our dad and friend who passed away, sing a little impromptu gospel, and hear a heartwarming story about our mom’s big brother, our Uncle Bill, to whom this episode is dedicated. This is a lighthearted peek into a day in our life so come join the family! Hope you enjoy it, as we all jump into the holiday season!

Actor W. Earl Brown: Deadwood, Bloodworth, Country & More – Part 2

E93 – We continue the conversation with W. Earl Brown, Deadwood’s ‘Dan Dority’, to find out details including the personal story behind the famous eyeball fight scene, how Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains and ZZ Top are involved, why the award-winning HBO series by David Milch was abruptly cancelled, and how the movie came about, giving the story and its actors closure. We sneak in another fight scene question, this one with Joaquin Phoenix in Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. Also jump into Earl’s screenplay adaptation of his own personal Catcher in the Rye, Provinces of Night, to become the movie Bloodworth, starring Val Kilmer, Kris Kristofferson, Hillary Duff, Dwight Yoakam, Frances Conroy, and Reece Thompson. The personal family stories and side tales about Kris Kristofferson are not to be missed, as we talk about country music, rock music, and all three of our personal connections with musicians like Steve Earle, Hank Williams, and Dolly Parton. We discuss his country band Sacred Cowboys and his funny new short film Dad Band with possible future installations! Be sure to see work Earl has done, such as playing Sheriff Hugo Root on Preacher, and keep an eye on the exciting future of this wonderful actor, writer, and musician!

Part 2 Alison Arngrim: Nellie Oleson of Little House on the Prairie

E86 – We’re back to finish our fun interview with Alison Arngrim, the wonderful Nellie Oleson actress, turned stand-up comedian and New York Times best-selling author. She talks about real-life ‘Little House on the Prairie’ mean girl moments, on-set rumors, what Michael Landon was like, her ringlet HAIR!, and why she thinks Little House child actors grew up to stay on the straight and narrow. We talk about how Alison is the David Hasselhoff of France and the hilarious reason why French cultural differences work in her favor. Joelle recounts stories when she pretended to be tomboy Laura, learned how to be blind like Mary, and even re-enacted the famous Nellie wheelchair scene, sans duck poop and radioactive waste of course! Alison answers some listener questions about her tv episodes and we learn the truth behind certain famous scenes. We also discuss the fact that The Rock might have a crush on her of sorts!

Alison is the queen of reinvention and hustle, and tells us about her Nasty Nellie tours of Hollywood and her online stand-up shows. She is also a survivor of childhood abuse and now is a powerful advocate at the National Association to Protect Children www.Protect.org Hear her full story in her book, available on www.Bonnetheads.com. We talk about the anxiety during this stressful pandemic, but also the hopeful medical advances that are being made (llama vaccines?!), and how she copes by being a helper. She has found that daily readings of the ‘Little House’ books on her Facebook Live have helped her and her thousands of followers find comfort. Alison is such a positive force out there and we had a wonderful time learning her story, her causes, and getting to know her. Please follow her and do the same!

Nellie Oleson! Little House on the Prairie’s Alison Arngrim Pt.1

E85 – Part 1 of our interview with energetic Alison Arngrim who played original mean girl Nellie Oleson on the long-running tv series that 70’s and 80’s kids everywhere grew up on, “Little House On The Prairie”. She makes time for us between her stand-up shows and Facebook Live daily readings to tell us fascinating stories about growing up in Hollywood in the wild 1960’s and 70’s in a showbiz family. Hear what her family connections were to the fabulous Liberace and Debbie Reynolds, what it was like to live in the Chateau Marmont, and other mini tales from her book “Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated”. We hear what it was like to be a child actor at that time in Los Angeles and how her auditions in front of Michael Landon went before she earned the part of Nasty Nellie! Some listener Q&A’s reveal if her tv mother Mrs. Harriet Oleson, played by Katherine MacGregor, was really as mean as she played on the show, and how Alison’s real-life friends and fans treated her in public. Police On Police

E84 – We are proud to have Ahmed Hassan back co-hosting with us, and to be a platform for these important voices. We put together a panel of California cops – a black female police officer, a white female police officer, and a black male police officer – to discuss what they’ve seen and what they know from their experiences in law enforcement. You’ll hear why they chose this career and their thoughts on brutality, protests, and defunding the police. You’ll learn their insights into quotas, racial profiling, sundowning laws, the code of silence, and what is really happening in the station and on the streets in their profession. How do the ‘bad apples’ make it onto the force and is this issue as prevalent as we’re seeing in the media? This is an eye-opening discussion spanning many years and many perspectives. We came out of it with a new viewpoint and wonder if you might too.
